ok let's talk about turbo's #2!!

I'm wondering about what you say about pushing the power uo to the higher rpm range being safer. wouldnt more power be safer at lowerrpms becasue the parts arnt moving as much there for less strain. Alos you have to think alot about what you want when buying your turbo. yes a higher a/r will make more power but it spools later.on the othere hand a lower a/r makes slightly less but spools quicker, but at high rpms you will start to loose boost because the backpressure in the turbo will become to great. in general the higher a/r you go the more drag car you become. lower a/r are generally considered street turbo's

when you go from barly moving to having a great amount of torque, the strain will make a rod play peek-a-boo with the block. If you work slowly into it you cause far less stress.
gotcha, thanx for the info cincytt. the 2871r .86 is looking more and more like the turbo for me. so you said guys have run that turbo on stock internals, but how much of a risk is it? i dont wana fork over the extra money for rods if i dont have to, but if there is a good possibility of one snapping and fukin up my engine, i'll gladly put in some more hours at work to prevent that. also how much do you think the whole project is gona end up costing me?
the atp hardware kit with a 2871r is $2500, add another $250-300 for injectors and another $800 for software. So you'll be in for around $4k depending on your injectors and sw tuner.
its right here. you then select your year and upgrade on the side. the 2871r is a $99 upgrade.
injectorsyou will need what the sw is written for.

thanx again man. how do i know im getting the .86 a/r and not the .64 a/r? also its got the option to change to a external wastegate. what's the difference between having an internal and external wastegate and which would you prefer?
The .64 should be the default size. you would need to get ahold of them when ordering to let them know you want a .86 and not a .64. T3 housings do flow a little better but if your only going 2871r i wouldnt worry to much about it. Like said above, a t25 housing w/ internal will be fine and simpler to run. I have seen people running 24psi with stock rods on the .86 housing daily.
