I have only ran logs once or twice. Lol, I guess I didn't even really think about my steps I just went into it and went! lol, I was going to run a scan on my car today anyway, so i'll see how i did it and get back to you. Oh and BTW, i have the old 311 software too, so I don't know what the problem might be...[&:]

Yeah i did it the way Onepoint said and it works fine. The only thing my vag can't communicate with is the Auto HVAC for some reason. It says excessive communication errors on auto scans and when i try to manually open that controller. Whatever, at least it is only something dumb like the climate control! I am assuming that is what it is!! lol

I recently found out that I am chipped(see https://www.audiforums.com/m_481031/tm.htm. But I don't know by who. could this be the problem of why I can't communicate with the ECU when the car is running? Has anyone else had this problem, a chip causing vag-com not to work?

Very doubtful. You should be able to talk to the ECU regardless of what chip is in there. I just read your other post, if it's some homebrew chip in there, some code might have been left out, & who knows what going on with it. Try to hook it up to another car, & see if it works.

Problem fixed - purchased a different cable from (ebay ID) alpha-bid, and it works great. I swear it communicates faster than the (ebay ID) autonositcs cable when reading with the ignition on. I used the driver from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm and everything works now - very happy - anyone want to buy a cable from autonostics
