Default Purchasing Audi A4 Need Help...

Planing to purchasing an Audi A4 1.8t mid January 2006. But i have some question's and was hopeing you guys can help me out.

1. is there a major different on FWD Vs. AWD - Performance wise?
(reason i ask is because i have seen alot more fwd for sale and less awd+more $$$ 4 awd)
2. I have been told that the stock turbo life time are 60k is this ture & how much are this turbo to repalce?

My plan are to purchase an 2002-2004 Audi 1.8t b6 AWD under 22K lower miles too...
My goal is to take on a 2002 bmw 325 and a spec v 2005 w/bolt on. (friends cars) plan to chip etc. hopefully

thanks for your time and any advice would be appreciated.

Lots of folks get more than 60k mi = 100k km out of their turbos, but they use 502.00 oil and change it frequently, and they cool down the turbo, at least briefly, before shutdown.

If you have to contend with slippery roads (snow, rain, ice), AWD is awesome. However, it will cost you in fuel consumption and maintenance/repair costs. I have an AWD A4 and a FWD VW Passat wagon and believe most of the difference in handling is attributable to suspension and weight distribution differences, rather than to the AWD itself.

1. yes, there is a HUGE difference. but only when it comes to handling and certain adverse weather conditions.

2. that's about what you should plan for. it may very well last 100k miles or more but many do go bad around 50-60k miles. if it's never been modified, chipped, or driven hard than it will last a very long time.

spec v's are garbage, a chipped a4 would smoke it...i don't know much about bmw's performance, but i would think a chipped a4 would beat a stock 325

AWD has TONS of advantage, and not just in certain conditions. Just the way it feels on the road is great. When driving hard, instead of getting on the gas after or at the apex of the turn, you can hammer down MUCH earlier and feel the car pull itself through the turn VERY well. They kinda grow claws . The spec v isn't garbage, it's just not an Audi. No class to them. AGAIN, tinny interiors suck
Oh yea, and with just a chip, I took a 328.
Just remember , Audi was taken out of many classes of racing for its "Unfair advantage" due to AWD!! THink about it for a minute

The AWD is awesome I had on a 98 Subaru Legacy and on my 05 Audi but it does cost a bit to repair so a warranty is recommended. FWD is just more difficult to control when stressing it under racing conditions but its also very fun to drive. I say this because I AutoX when I have a chance and I use to own a 04 Spec V R-tuned all engine until it got totaled in a car accident someone hit me by the passenger side and tipped the car over. Now that I got my Audi I really regret it because even though the spec v didnt have a more luxurious leather interior and other stuff my spec v held its own at the track. Anyone can step on the gas and race on a straight line. This comment is for you BENTFRAME if you think a Spec V is garbage either you have owned one an cant handle FWD car in a race or either you raced one and you raced an amateur. Wish I still had my Spec V I would pay your entry fee to a track just to prove you wrong!

First of all, ill like to thank you guys for your comments.

So I guess I should add a turbo timer to my list, a friend of mine has a Awd legacy and he is every proud of it! (Swellhead) and I agree Awd are awesome, well saying that I guess ill look for a Awd. I had a e46 330ci auto myself and would take my friends spec v (stock) and 325ci (stock) like nothing! lol To tell you guys the truth I don’t care about beating my friends cars it just makes it even more fun… I just want a luxury sedan w/ some power at a good price.

P.s. sorry about the spelling…
