Quick Question

Hey, sorry if this thread has already been made, but I've been searching and haven't found any answers to my question.
Anyways, I wanted to buy an 1997 a4, but I heard taht these cars once you got to about 150 000 kms, they start to leak and throw oil. I was wondering if anyone knew if this is true or has had this problem. Thank you for your time and responses.

RE: Quick Question

I have 98 A4 1.8T with 146000 miles or something which is equal to about 200.000km. it's not leaking or throwing oil. It still works like a baby.

I don't think no one has any leaking problem in here. This is Audi, does not leak :)[8D]

RE: Quick Question

the 98 is a different scenario than the 97, i have a 97 A4 Quattro 1.8t and it does get that way, i have been running into problems from around 80,000-90,000miles till now which its at 115,000 miles its been this or that. It actually has to get fixed again. I personally would stay away from it just for the simple reason that this was one of the first years for this car's design so a lot of design issues which you won't find on the 98.....(Its the simple rule of stay away from the first year of a new design of a car). Dont get me wrong i love this car and that is part of the reason im still suffering through this....i had this car since 30,000miles and the first big issue came at 75k when the timing belt went when i was doing about 45mph on the highway....had to get the engine rebuilt....

PLAIN and SIMPLE....its like a abusive relationship you deny the car is causing you all these problems and money because of great memories you have with it......

Ill still swear by Audi but i definitely run into problems with that year later in its life.

RE: Quick Question

thank you all for the replies..
I'll still search around, check on the prices and previous maintaince on the cars before I actually buy. THey're a bit pricey here in Canada though, a 1997 with about 150 000km, is over 8 000 dollars.
