Default Rear brake lights constantly on?

Weird one this...

For starters I don't have any warning lights on my dash. When driving during the day (no lights on) my brake lights work fine... light up when I stamp on the pedal!!! All good so far!!

Here's the thing though... as soon as I put on my lights then my brake lights turn on (center one as well) constantly. These are not my fog lights, my actual brake lights!! The bulbs are all fine as I've just bought new ones all round and tested each. Fuses seem to be fine too!

I've have the car about 6 months now so could this be a wiring issue not 'mentioned' at sale or is it a simple issue I'm overlooking!!?

Any ideas/solutions welcome!

The model is a 01 A4 2.0.

Maybe a bad ground wire... But I suck at that kind of stuff so I dunno for sure.
There is a sensor by your brake pedal that signals the brake lights to come on when you depress the brake pedal, maybe that sensor/switch is stuck/bad?

If your car is a 2005.5 2.0T?? If so, you should take it to the dealership and get it repaired under the warranty.

Not that I'm aware of, thats why I asked the question. I believe and correct me if I'm wrong, that the B7 2.0T's are 2005.5 and up.

Probably a short circuit in the power wires to the lights causing power to brake lights when the lights are on. Probably not a ground wire.

Had a similar problem, but the lights didn't need to be on. Turned out to be the sensor on the brake pedal, replaced by the dealer under warranty. Since yours only happens with the lights on it's probably wiring.

Yup! I'm having that problem right this very second. I was just told by one of my workers that my brake lights were on. After playing around with it I found that if I lift up on the brake pedal it would go out and if I just touch it slightly it would come on and stay on until I lift up on it again. I called the dealer and they have to order it. In the mean time while it is parked I have to prop my golf shoe under the brake pedal to keep the light off or it will kill my battery.
