Default Rear Brake sensor?

I have a 03 1.8 quattro. I have been procrastinating the rear brakes for way too long. I have the tool, rotors, and pads.. and from the looks of it I have about 2mm of pad left on the outside and less on the inside. I thought for sure the OEM pads had sensors... so shouldn't I have had a warning by now? Are the sensors an option?

I have looked in there and don't see a wire, but I can't see the inside pad too clearly.. without taking the caliper off. I'd like not to have to do this job till next week, but i'm not sure how much longer I can wait.

^no.. but with 19k miles.. I doubt the pads were changed. Now I have 70k.. and they're in bad shape.

IDK man, my first car, Mercedes, had them on the front but not the back, maybe that's how they do'em these days. Who knows..I'd just go ahead and change'em if you've got the things to do it. That's just me though..
