remote problem

Hello,

I have a problem, my remote for the keyless entry for my 97 A4 stopped working. I only have one remote, I've tried changing the batteries and reprogramming but, still not luck. So I came to the conclusion that the remote is done, the dealership wants almost $200 just for the remote. I have the separate key and remote and I was wondering, if I buy the fob (switchblade) key off ebay, will it work on my car? The numbers in the back of my remote are: MZ2 410 819 4 but the switchblade fob ones are MZ2 410 819 6, is this a problem? Has anyone successfully gotten one of these and worked fine without exactly matching the numbers? Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know exactly what that different digit signifies, but I do know that people HAVE got remotes off ebay and had them work, although occasionally you need to pay the dealer to program them...

So, if it's off by that last number it won't work? If it won't is there any switchblade fobs that WILL work on a 97 A4, I was running a search but can't quite get it down packed, I've seen some posts that it does work and some that it doesn't...

id say that since there's never really a shortage of keys on ebay, it's worth your while to wait and call a dealership, and ask them if it'll work. then go from there. it's not like you're missing out on a great deal, considering the turnover rate on ebay these days.
