Remote Transmitter

Hey guys,

Having a problem with the transmitter. Before I had my car in the shop, I could activate and deactive the stock alarm from at least 25 feet away. Now, I have to stand beside the car and can be no more than 5 ft away. I replaced the batteries, still the problem exists. When I had my accident, they replaced the alarm and whatever else is in that unit in the trunk.

What could cause the signal to be so weak? Could they have forgotten to replace a sensor or maybe not attached it properly? I don't mind ripping the car apart a bit to ensure all the sensors are plugged in, just don't know where they are all located.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

RE: Remote Transmitter

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but they may very well have attached the antenna for the remote to a part of the car that is blocking the signal like on the other side of the gas tank or something

The dealer we bought my wifes 20th AE GTI from showed us a trick and to this day can't beleive it actually works but if you press the remote under your chin and hit the button, it extends the range a good 20 feet or so. Its a handy thing to know heh

Humm... I'll try that when I leave work. I'll probably look like an idiot, but its worth a shot.

Anyone else have any ideas for checking the installation job on my transmitter unit in my trunk?
