Replace Shift Plate
 

Hello - New owner here.
Looking for a good solution for getting the scratches out of the silver shift plate located right under the gearshifter. (It had the P, R, N, D, .... ) Mine seems to have scratches, and would like to get them out some how. I have the auto/tiptronic, not manual shifter.
I have read other formus at different websites, but I wanted to see what the pros have to say.

That looks good, but I have Automatic trans with the tiptronic. The plate has the drive letters in it that are lit up in red. Any idea how to 1) remove that plate, 2) Fix the chrome plate so letter and such are not destroyed.

I think the area that you fixed is different that what I am talking about, it is hard for me to describe. I need the chrome plate fixed, it would be where the black leather around the stick is in a manual car. You seemed to fix what is around that.

Jest, he is talking about the tip shifter plate - not the surround.

On my previous 98.5 I sanded it down - removed the chrome - and then sprayed it with a satin clear coat.
It then looked brushed aluminum. I did the same to my current car (2000).

To remove it you need to take off the center console. Start with the rear piece, then the main front piece. Radio has to come out first before you can get the front part of the console out. For that you need the radio keys. Once the console is off you will see 4 small taps that hold the plate in place. An electronics board (the 1, 2, 3, etc) is stuck to the underside of it with 2 sided tape. You can remove this and reapply it later.

why the hell did you run win 2k server. 2k profession runs so much faster

That was a test run - only O/S I hadon me at the time. I run XP Pro on the system in the car.

i used to run 2k advanced server (cuz i got it for free and it took so long to open up solitare. like 2 1/2 minutes

That is exactly what I am talking about.... Great pictures too! Looks real good. Makes me want to do it. Seems like a lot of work though to take out the radio, console, ect... Where can I get the radio keys? Is this a hard removal? or intermediate? I would consider myself intermediate.

if its that bad and u really wanna change it look under ebay or go to an audi dealer and c what they have
