I am making a touch screen computer somewhat like the ones that come with a8's but will have a large hard drive and basically i might even hook it up to the ODB2 + software and have an on board navigation as well. Has anybody done this in the past or am i the first one to think of this? It will be hooked up to the stereo for music/movies as well and a dvd drive in the trunk. Anybody done this before because i don't know where tomount the screen. Thats my biggest worry, i was thinking above the shifter on the roof where the sun roof usually goes (my car doesnt have one) but can you run wires through the roof?

why not just replace your stock HU with the touchscreen...? like he did?

 

I think you can do a search for Carputer... lol been done a couple of times, they put the screen where the stock radio is.

 

brrman has the closest setup to what youre talking about...he has a whole cpu stuffed behind his dash (he replaced the stock HU)

sharkweb on audiworld did one too, computer, mp3's, dvd's, nav, vag-com, wireless, touchscreen, all the goodies.

 

for the money though... i'd rather make my cr go fast, and look cool than have another computer to crash. though brrmans was amazing, and i think his came out to a really reasonable price for the incredible system he has.

 

i'm with check, it's just not worth it unless youre loaded...but i guess that's not really an issue for most of the people on this forum....it is amazing though...mp3, navigation, touch screen, on-board dignostics, built in to your car?! ...amazing

 

It's not worth it unless you have an urge to build it and enjoy doing that stuff.
My system is touchscreen and can co anything a pc can do, plus nav, VAG, etc...
