Default Service (OIL) Light can't be reset.

Hi,
First time poster around this forum. Any help will be much appreciated. The problem is the following.
After doing the maintenance at a local shop I now want to reset the SERVICE! light. I checked online and I found these two solutions:

1)Turn off the ignition
Press and hold the button on the left side of the display while turning the ignition on
Service OIL will be displayed
Pull out the button on the right side of the display until the service prompt is cleared
The display should now read ---

2)With the ignition off, push the right button
Turn the ignition on and then pull the left button
This should clear the warning message

Now the problem with the first one is that the oil light does not come on for the first solution. Plus my right button cannot be pulled, it can only be pushed. Someone please help.

Thank you

Take a sharpie and color in the oil light.

My apologies. It's a 1999.5 manual.

I don't think that's possible, the message appears on the screen in the middle. The marker's ink would run out, and markers are expensive nowadays.

So was I.

To add one more thing, I remember reseting once, following those instructions, but now they don't seem to work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. After pressing the left button, should I let go of it or should I keep it pressed the whole time?

Thank you.

Just the oil was changed. It was a local shop, i didn't want to pay 100s of dollars for an oil change with my local audi. .

I would also like to add that I thank everyone trying to help.
