Should I buy an A4 for my first car? $1000 and 215K miles

I'm a high school student in the search for my first car, I don't have much money right now. Heres the details on the car. Its a 1996 Audi A4 AWD and has the sport package and winter package. Also has the 2.8 with a 5 speed tranny. Its loaded with a bunch of power options and has snow tires (good for Maine winters ) It appears to be in mint condition inside and out which is surprising. The only thing it needs is rear struts but that isn't a priority. He is asking $1000 but I think I could talk the guy down on the price he is a nice guy. I am only looking for a car that will last me about 6 months to a year so I can buy a midsize truck. I realize they are expensive to own but I would only have it for about a year probably. I also take good care of my stuff and won't beat on it. I don't drive fast. Should I get it or not? Thanks for the help!

Well first thing first you will want to check fluids obviously, power steering is kinda an important one,so be sure to check it. It has a green cap. Next check tires for excessive wear, means you have to get at least a 50$ alignment. Check all lights, brakes, power windows, heated air, air conditioning(if you care),sunroof, power seats, radio, check for dead bodies in the trunk, and if all that clears, start the car. Listen for odd noises, a lot of 2.8's had a slight tick to them due to higher mileage, so no big scare there, unless it's really loud then you might have an issue. Now drive it. First thing turn the steering wheel all the way left and right and drive in circles. If you here popping, you need control arms, if you hear clunking you need a half shaft/axle. If you hear whining when turn it's power steering. Walk away if it has power steering issues. Expensive to fix. Other than that if you like the way it handles and drives get it. It's amazing in the snow and it's just has class in the way they are designed. So good luck man.
