Hey, thanks for all the replies. the hesitation is hard to explain, the turbo spools and then instead of smooth acceleration, you know the oommph that you get when it accelerates (the kick in the pants), it accelerates, but around 3500 rpm it feels like the car hesitates and then you feel the oomph again, it hesitates again at around 4500 rpm and then another slight ommph. i'm thinking it could be the turbo, maybe there's something wrong with that. what's a good diverter valve? the shop i go to recommended the audi tt 225 hp dv. do any of you have it, and how does it feel?

about the swerving, the car does it on its own, i'm at a steady speed, let's say 35 mph in one inch snow, low rpm (2000 - 2500) in thirt gear, and then the car would pull to the left, i would straighten the wheel, then it would pull to the right, it could high pressure in my tires and me going over the tracks that other cars ahead of me left in the snow. i'll go have the car checked out at the shop, maybe it's the alignment. thanks again for all the replies.

either that or, i know it happens on dry pavement....dont know about the snow....but a friend of mine had really grippy tires.....some sort of drag radial....and when I drove it, it would grip the road and start to pull to the left and right sometimes, really weird. when he put back on his normal crappy tires, it didnt do it.

sounds almost like a MAF problem with your hesitation get the car scanned and see what code comes up

yeah, i went to the shop i usually go, and they've told me that the cam tensioner seal is leaking oil, it would cost $250 to fix (very common problem they've said with my model and mileage - 81k), also they wanna charge $150 for a brake flush. does that sound about right? that could be causing the hesitation in the acceleration. anybody had this problem before? also, every time i go to the shop there's something wrong with the cooland system (clamps loose, leaking coolant, needs hoses replacement), and the control arms go out quick. i just replaced them last year during fall, now one of them is damaged again. any preventive advices?

what does a 90k tuneup consist of?

I find my back end slides around a bit when im in the snow. But then again, I like to drive quite fast even in crappy slushy weather. I thought for about a week there was something wrong with the Quattro until one day it was pretty bad out and I was sliding around a bit. I got home and took my brothers car out which is FWD - HUGE difference. I couldn't do half the speed I was doing with the A4.

if you replaced you DV and the car reacted positively for only a while, it could me the old DV actually was bad, and now that the good one holds up it has put pressure on a weaker section of the system (ie. a boost leak).

It started snowing here in Indianapolis tonight and everyone was freaking, like driving 45 mph on the freeway. I was laughing so hard. There wasn't even any snow on the ground, just blowing around.

I am running everything stock with a new stock turbo and i know the hesitation he is talking about. I thought with a new chip and DV that my car would stop doing it. but i guess i was wrong because you are having the same deal.

When at a stand still i step to 3/4 or to the floor. the rpms hit 3-4000 and bang the
(the kick in the pants)
When driving it is the same way this is always evident when cornering fast. I am letting off around the corner and when i hit the throttle again i get nothing for 1-2 secs and then "kick in the pants." the car is a blast to drive but i just wish i could get a faster throttle response when i push on it.

I dont know if i explained the same thing or if this is what is going on but i thought it might help

I dont know about you guys but my FWD is cool in the snow when I lower the tyre presure to 30-32PSi all around, feels short of a quatro.
just when you start going try not to press alot. slitly ingage gear in the idle and slightly press the pedal. also check the tyre pressure might be to high, in deep snow lower it to like 20-25 psi then you will have traction. :-)
what the hell? Im not affraid to admit as a fwd driver that you cannot simulate or come "short" of quattro by reducing the psi in your tires. Yes fwd is alright in the snow, but it isnt compareable in any way to quattro. And.. Dont take your tire psi to 20-25 because you will damage your sidewalls, and radial belts, especially if the temp outside is cold enough to snow. I agree that lower psi may give better traction, but it doesnt mean its a good idea or that it performs anything like quattro. IF you must, dont go below 27 or so psi.
Ye you right, I have 16 inch wheels so I have some rubber play. but ye no less that 27psi, its all cool. the pressure in the tires in my car change by it self, it becomes cold it dropes.
