snow tires for 17" rims?
i've got an '01 A4 1.8t Quattro w/ sport pkge. (incl. 17" wheels)
this came w/ Michilin Pilot Sports ( EXCELLENT TIRE ) in 225/45/17
if you know this tire, you know that it is totally unacceptable for winter driving. (live in Philly)
but i don't want to compromise with all-seasons either.........
so i'm gonna buy some snow tires and change them out twice a year...
here in Philly it doesn't snow the entire winter, so a good bit of my driving on these snow tires will be on dry pavement.
so i dont want a tire that has excessive road noise or handles like a wet sponge.
i've heard that the Blizzaks (ws-50's & lm-22's) are great in the snow, but tend to be very noisey and dont handle too well.
i've been told that the Michilin Alpin PA2's are much quieter and handle reletivly well ( for a snow tire ).
so i'm asking for your input, fellow A4-ers, if you've got the 17" wheels, what kinda rubber do you put on 'em for the winter?
and what do you think of your tires in the catagories of snow traction, noise, and handling?
i'm leaning towards the Michilins (however you spell that) for now, but its everyones input here that makes this forum so great !!!!!!
thanx evry1

RE: snow tires for 17" rims?
if I were u get some 15" steelies or if you don't like steelies get a different set of rims the install time is going to add up and u can find a set of steelies cheap enough it will be cheaper than the 17" snows thats just my own opinion though

RE: snow tires for 17" rims?
i know what ur saying, the price for 17" tires is gonna hurt,
but i don't think i can take my sport wheels off, GOD THEY'RE HOT.
those factory sport 17's are nice lookin rims, and i think i'd rather pay the x-tra $ and keep them on, rather than getting some cheep steel wheels. ( maybe i put too much emphises on looks, no, -too much, hell if i didn't care so much about looks i would be driving such a phat ride- lol )<--------looks sharp.
but anyway, as long as its not affecting my traction, i'm keeping the 17's
so what-ever i get is going on the 17's

Na dude, i live in pa too(near state college) Im kind of a diehard when it comes to that so i love the extra traction. Like i said, there nothing like my yokos but there not designed to be, they stop and go anywhere.
