so i really want an aftermarket h/u...but i have bose
love the way my bose system sounds. I think its great. I have a thing for alpine headunits though and I really wish I could get one. It would enable me to have the option of satelite radio, and it would integrate with my ipod as my blitzsafe does now.
I never knew that there was a wiring harness for the b5 a4's....but today on crutchfield i found one

I decided to talk to crutchfield...and they tell me that I cannot change my headunit unless I change every bose speaker and re-wire the whole car.
I have a feeling this is true, but I don't want to accept it just yet. Is there any way to run an aftermarked hu without replacing my speakers? I like the way the Bose sounds but damn they are making things so complicated.

well that guy lied to you.. I have a 99 and put a kennwood excellon head unit in my car, I have bose, still have bose, didnt have to rewire anything or change any speaker, i even still use the factory bose amp.. they sell a adapter that uses your RCA's on your head unit, or you can make your own very simple
your post has brought a great smile to my face....can you please explain to me which harnesses you used exactly, etc.. i am very interested.
The aftermarket headunit will allow me to hook my subs in to a direct subwoofer output (better sound)...and have outputs for satelite radio and an ipod connection at the same time.

I use to love Alpine had about 5 of them but to be honest I dont like thier new stuff, dont like the displays and the fact that they are no longer Multi color displays, and that glide touch was garbage had to get my dam head unit replaced 5 times.. so gay..
If you have a Jo-d's car stereo store around you that is where i got mine, i dont know the part number just know it that it was for my auid, actually it was for a 00 A4 but it works with the older cars with bose, if you cant find it I would be willing to call the sterio place where i got mine and get a part number and who makes its..

that would be real cool because i cannot find anything on their site like that. Every single website/forum i have read has told me that this intall is not going to work due to different ohms that bose speakers run...
and i understand that could be a huge problem...but i figured i'd post anyways just to see if anyone has successfully did it. your story is 1 of a kind...do you know how the adapter works to regulate the ohms or make everything work without problems?

well they are all done, if your not changing the amp and just sending a signal to the amp from the head unit there is no frequency change, your stock head unit is sending the same signal just with the use of wires insread of rca's.. ill call on my lunch break tomarrow and post it up later in the day tomarrow...
Hey man I have Alpine H/U currently in my audi b5 i dnt know the exact part number for u but what tht guy was telling you about bose is somewhat true! if you ever decide to put and after market amp or aftermarket speakers you will have to change everythin (God dam Bose) I know this because I did it.
