Spark Plugs

How much should a shop charge for labor to replace the spark plugs? V6 engine.

depends on the hourly rate and cost of parts also which garage does it for you so ask around or DIY

depends if you look like a sucker or not;) - well it depends on the shop - my local euro turner charges $80 an hour. so even a simple job can get expensive. just do it yourself if you think your up to it very simple.

Do it yourself.

The parts that you will buy cost less than one time labor.

I hate it, I really hate myself because I'm mechanic blind when it comes down to car.

I really wish I could learn how to do this, but I don't know where to learn it from.

The shop want to charge 180 just for the parts and labor to replace 6 spark plugs.

I wonder how much he can pocket to install cheap plugs? Can you trust your mechanic? If you think he's not going to rip you off then you should be fine with paying 180.

I believe the hardest part about changing out plugs is just gapping them to spec. But even then you can get people at Autozone or your local parts store to gap them for you. So, no sweat.

Even with platinum plugs, that's excessive.
Just buy 6 irridium plugs somewhere... get them gapped... and put them in yourself. It's very easy! Just do it when the engine is cold, and buy some anti-seize compound to apply sparingly to the threads.
