what do you mean by "affordable" ?? heh heh

It takes a little DIY work to upgrade the audi system, especially if you have the premium Bose.

I just finished installing 2 Hifonics amps, Boston Acoustics in rear, Kicker Resolution components in the front, and a 10" Infinity sub w/ custom fiberglass enclosure in the trunk. Hardest part is installing the new speakers in the doors. They are only 4 " stock speakers. You can fit 5 1/4" in there but you need to find or make adapters to make them fit correctly, and there is not much room. (I made my own adapters)

I decided for now what I want to get is speakers. I like to listen to my music LOUD, and want to know what the best speakers to get are... I dont want these speakers to blow out cause of the loud volume!<IMG src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0"> Some friends told me that Boston Acoustics are the way to go... Opinions and help would be great, thanks!</P>

hey brrman describe your custom fiberglass enclosure. Any pics?

Corey: Just adding speakers will not let you get any louder - you'll just end up blowing the speakers because the stock audi amps havent got the juice to power them (the speakers will overmodulate/clip when you push them loud and they will fry from the coils overheating). Yes - the speakers blow because they are underpowered.

Do you have the premium Bose already? or just the basic system? You need amps if you want loud. The stock audi systems just don't have the wattage to pump out loud. Getting good speakers will giver you "better sound" but not "louder" sound.

Boston Acoustics are good (yet overpriced) speakers. There a many other speakers systems that are just as good. Just depends on how much cash you want to spend

hey - I found a pic of my adapters (installed)

The stock speakers have a triangular hole pattern with three screws - most speakers have a 4 hole pattern.

I put boston acoustics in my my rear door panels too...was a real pain in the ass to make brakets forand two months later a drunk friendkicked the speaker grill and it granaded.....</P>

Most aftermarket speakers will handle more power than stock speakers but they sacrifice eficiency to do this which means with the same stock amp andbetter speakers will be quieter...in most cases</P>

hmm - basic setup:

front speakers (components) - $100-$300
rear speakers (coaxial) - $50-$200
4 channel Amp (supports front and rear stages) - $200-$500
"decent" subwoofer - $100 - $250
2 channel Amp/or mono Amp - (supports mono sub) - $200-$300[mono amps normally cost more than a bridable 2 channel amp]
Speaker wire, rca cabling, Power and ground wires, assorted crap - $25-$75

so add that up and you get like $675 - $1625

It all depends on what gear you buy. The quotes of prices I gave were for "acceptable low end" gear up to the "top end [but not unattainable] gear". And all this is assuming you install the stereo yourself. No labor costs included.
and don't forget a sub enclosure - that will cost you anywhere between $25 to do it yourself to $300 to have it custom made by a pro.<edited><editID>brrman</editID><editDate>38070.7239814815</editDate></edited>

yeah thats bout right also if you have a six speaker setup like me theres an extra set you gotta buy and if you get a four chanel amp for the speakers make sure its brigable(most are now) so you can run two set of the rear speaker outputs on the amp...or get another two chanel amp</P>

or you could use the output of the aftermarket deck youll be gettin...</P>

I love puttin systems together...when you get all the parts your all excited <IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0">and about halfway through your cursing yourself for ever being born<IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0">....but its all worth it when its done....if you finish<IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0"></P>
