Where did you hear that???? Ive had KYB's on my maxima for almost a year and they perform like they did when i put them on. Its a cheap oem replacement and i would NEVER put aftermarket springs on them. Purely for OEM replacement with oem springs. I can see how they would break if you put springs on that lower it 2 inches though. KYB does make an adjustable performance aftermarket shock that is ok to use with lowering springs. They might be out of your budget though.

They will eventually go bad. You will still end up paying for a set of shocks. Unless you do the work yourself, you'll also have to pay for 2 installs instead of just one.

No the car will not go up and down up and down from the factory shocks. The excessive wheel travel most people complain about is from too much unsprung weight from aftermarket wheels, tires, and heavier big brake kits. A good shock will rebound 1 time atfer the vehicle is jounced, a bad shack or strut will rebound several times. By lowering the vehicle you have made the spring or shock constantly have a compressed shock so it's ability to handle vibration is decreased and the strut rod seal takes on the extra load causing the seal to eventually blow an makeing the shock or stut bad. If you get a rebounding (road vibration problem) with the factory wheels, tires and brakes the spring rate is too weak or you have weak struts, if the struts were replaced and are new the spring rate is too weak for the vehicle. A stiff spring weight will not cause the vehicle to bounce but it can cause a harsh stiff ride but will also allow you to have a higher unsprung weight. Unsprung weight is the weight a spring does not hold up such as lower control arms, brakes, wheels and tires.

If you choose not to get new struts now you will wear out the factory ones quicker and will be replacing them anyway. The factory stut will not be able to dampen the blows created by uneven streets, it will only be able to dampen the rebound as the wheel travels down again. Bumps will be harsh. Stiff springs cause a harsh ride but can be greatly dampened with GOOD HIGH QUALITY struts.
