i just added a sub to my bose system last weekend. it's not too difficult, but there is quite a bit of wire tapping/splicing involved. there are line level outputs coming from your stock amp in the trunk. you have to tap into those, modify some RCAs on one end to connect to the taps you made, and bam, instant bass. from what i've heard from others and from my own experience, you will probably need to add a ground loop isolater in addition to the sub and amp.

The AUDI is one of the easiest car ive hooked up a sub too.. the wires are run so easily to the trunk.. use a LOC to convert the head unit speaker cables to the subs.. its really easy!!!!!

Audi even has a hole through the firewall to the inside of the car all gromented off and everything..

open up your ecu box under the hood. the hole at the back wall of that box goes straight into the foot well

you dont really need anything because u can use the high input on the amp.

all u need is the little adapter that the amp came with.

and just tap those with the rear speakers. and find a power on.

the amp actually has low level inputs that you can tap into as well. that's the route i went with. the power wire you really should run straight to the battery. it's very easy to do. open the ecu box (that's the most difficult part because there is a bolt at the back of the box that's covered by the lower windshield trim), feed the wire through the hole, run it down the side (underneath the kick panels), under the rear seat, and up into the trunk. it's really not hard at all. once you've got the ecu lid off it takes another 15 minutes to run everything.

you shouldnt use those inputs on the amp, they are not meant for a signal that carries high amperes (those are meant for you to power your speakers, inputs into amp are similar to rca's - little power). it is highly recommended, for both sound quality and longevity of the amp and subs, to use a high low converter, this will convert the spliced into speaker cable into an rca.

I read enough stories about bad sound quality from high/low converters that I decided instead to pick up line level inputs right from the head unit. I just spliced into the common and the left rear line level outputs, put RCAs on, then ran the lines through the center console, along the hump, and under the backseat to the sub amp in the trunk (ran the 4 AWG power line along the passenger side floor to avoid interference. Nice clean signal, which responds to EQ settings so I can control the sub level from the HU. The most difficult part was running the line through the console and along the hump (damn Germans really know how to screw a car together :-)). In hindsight it would have been easier to run the line level wires along the drive side floor. I picked up the remote from the factory amp.

Not sure if this will match yours, but I found the wiring diagram for my HU here.
