Default Strange CVT transmission problem !

I have a 3 mnt old 3.0 CVT A4 that has being displaying a very worrying transmission problem. Intermittently when you start up the car , put your foot on the brake and shift into reverse the car will “ jump backwards “ and you have to jam your foot down on the brake to stop the car moving backwards. It feels just like when you try and start a stick-shift in gear with the clutch out.

Bought it in to the dealer but “ they couldn’t reproduce the problem, and all the systems checked out ok “ so go away and stop bothering us ……

Has anyone heard about this or experienced it ??

On january 15 2003 i aquired a brand new A4 confort version with the multitronic gear box for nearly 40,000 USD (39,700), today after only 15 days and less than 2000 miles the car is in the shop and i am told that a new transmission must be instaled because the one on the car does not work. I find this not only exasperating but completely unacceptable, when i asked the mexican distributor for a car replacement he told me that that simply was not going to happen. I must tell you that this little ordeal has generated over 2000 USD in expenses to me, the car broke down 500 miles away from my hometown and i had to fly back to be at my office early monday morning. I must tell you that AUDI is the biggest piece of metal scrap that i had bought in my life. Where is the so call service, where is all you warranties and lies that you tell people in order to get them to spend 40,000 USD on a complete piece of junk. I have come to realize tha AUDI is just a company that once it has your money you are just an annoince to them, as a costumer you are worth less than a used screw tossed in the garbage. I must say that your company is nothing but a pack o thieving liers and money hungry conmans. I find it terribly dissapointing that after 40,000 USD all i have is a car with a major reparation done to it with no resale value and a car that i cannot trust since it already stranded me on my first jurney. I find it sad that your company takes advantage of the law to sell me a piece of junk and then just say...."will fix it...it is not our obligation to change the whole gearbox but will do it because we are nice"...to this i say.....lies all lies. You can rest assured that i will distribute this inofrmation in whatever internet site i find and that i will tell all who will hear me that buying an UADI is a big mistake, that from personal experience the car breaks down before 2000 miles and that there is no support from the company behind it. I am not asking for something unreasonable, all I want is a 40,000 USD car that actually works. I did not pay such an amount of money for a car with less that 2000 miles and a major report on its log. I payed 40,000 USD for a car that actually works.

Default Strange CVT transmission problem !

Don't they come with limited powertrain warrantees? I would write to a magazine like Car&Driver or Motortrend and see if they can do something with it. Its a terrible injustice and you shouldn't stand for it. VW/Audi AG is already under fire for all the coilpack problems, I'm sure they wouldn't want another problem.

Thanks for the replys. I brought my A4 back to the dealer last week after the reverse "problem " happened again , they told me I could leave it in with them but chances were thery wouldn't find any thing again ! He did however state that " I had started a paper trail with Audi since I had left it in before for this problem so I was totally covered by the 5x5 warrantee .."

Not sure whay Pearl is getting so shafted, my dealer is constantly contacting me with customer service" stuff" they seem to be trying hard although they really do come up short when you compare them to BMW customer service.Had a 328 before the Audi , never any big problems, and BMW couldn't do enough to make sure I was 200% satisfied. Hope I don't come to regreat buying an Audi ..............hope it ends well

Default Strange CVT transmission problem !

I too have noticed the " bump" when putting in reverse ( 03' A4 CVT,950 miles). I only notice it when I first start the engine and when Im in a hurry to get to work. I think it may be that the engine is still in a high idle, warm up mode. And by putting into reverse with out waiting for it to go down in RPMs might be what were noticing. I'm going to wait to see if it gets worse or stays the same.

Default Strange CVT transmission problem !

i have 2003 a4 3.0 with 2k miles on it. after driving car for 1 hr on freeway i stopped at market. upon leaving and putting from park to reverse i heard the most ungodly sound and the car rocked. i quickly put in parked and it stopped. the same thing happend shortly after. i took to dealer who never heard of this. i left the car all day but they could not duplicate the problem. i am not too happy to hear that and others have same problem. lets all keep in touch with one another about this. thanks.

The problem hasn't gone away but it has only happened a couple of times in the past few months, doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold. and yes it's not a bump it's like the engine wants to jump out of the car !!

Of course it has mostly happened when my wife is driving and it scares the hell out of her especially since she has a baby in the car as well !!!
