would it be a good idea to put synthetic oil into my `96 2.8L A4 with 54k miles on it? its been on with regular oil for its life and i have heard to change it to synthetic would not be good for the car. is this true? or can i still put synthetic in it thanx!

The synth oil is fine, any good brand, Mobil 1, Amsol or if you can find it AGIP.
Use a good filter, Mann or Mahle NOT Bosch or Fram.

Yep no problems changing to synthetic at all. Just make sure it is an approved Audi oil.

What I've heard is that once the seals have formed their shape, the thinner synthetic can cause oil leaks. But I dunno..maybe some new synthetics are better so they'll work for higher mileage cars. Or what the person told me was full of crap

What's wrong with the Bosch filters?
And audis recommended oil is castrol syntec 5w40... it's never bad to switch to synthetic.

I just did my first oil change on my b6 a couple weeks ago. Used a bosch filter, but the one that was on there was about twice the size of the bosch. From now on I'm only using the oversized ones from Audi. They're only like $5 from ecs tuning.

You're using the wrong Bosch filter, then! I get my bosch filters from the dealer... and they are the exact same size as the Mann filters I used to use... which were the updated high capicity ones. My car only saw ONE oil change with the lower capicity filter.

Audi recommends 0w40 if you are going to use mobil 1.
