Default Temperature guage

Hii all,

I have 1997 audi A4 and since last two days the temperature guage always stays in the middle exactly not to the right but some times goes to left and comes back and stays in the middle like equilibrium, could any one tell me what the problem might be, is this common because it was not like this before, ever since i drove like 200 miles this is happening.

could any one help me in this regard.

waiting for your valuable replies.

Thanks,
Ram.

The guage is suppose to stay in the middle. Are you saying it drops down and then goes back to the middle again?

Temp gauge should always be in the middle once warmed up.. Sounds like you have a thermostat or engine coolant temp. sensor problem.. Either one is cheap to fix yourself.

Yep the coolant temp should always stay at 12 o clock after the car is warmed up.

Thanks for your replies

Since few days my check engine light is on, so I went to autozone to check whats the problem they run some test and found this code on their computer code “P0116â€
‘this was the report given by them – the PCM has determined that the input from the engine coolant temperature sensor changed too little or too much for current engine operating conditions’

do you think this might be problem for temperature gauge staying in the middle.

Is it possible for me to fix this sensor ‘if so could any one help me in this regard and where can I get this sensor’

Thanks,
Ram.
