Default Thinking of getting a 96 2.8..

So, tell me about them.. Am I a fool for thinking of getting one? Are the horror stories of big problems and big money to fix them all true?

What things should I look for when looking for one?

How do they drive etc?

Tell me what I need to know

Thanks!

i think the 96 is a 12valve, 97 and up is a 30 valve I THINK but i would reccomend a 1.8t, theres alot more potential

i have a 96 2.8Q manual. I would suggest if you want the V6 get a 30V. It's worth the extra cash if you ever want to upgrade. If you're looking for one with the most potential a 1.8t has much more potential then the V6.

Although I've heard the 96's have the least problems and least maintenence, you have to remember it's 10 years old and will have those extra little bugs.

The only thing that pisses me off is my climate control doesn't light up sometimes and the fuel guage doesn't work after 1/2 tank which is real annoying cause I always run out of gas...lol. I'll fix it this week probably though.

If you do buy it get the timing belt changed right away, don't trust them when they say they've done it...oh yea, I forgot that's a $600 job and that's at a discounted price. [:'(]

Control arms have a tendency to start squeeking and require replacement $90 a peice.

My rears squeek a bit, starting to **** me off also.
