Default Tip drives nice

I never thought I'd end up with two Tip cars, but here I am. The thing I really like about the Tip in the Avant is that I can hold the shift right up to red-line in Tip mode. My S4 won't shift above 6800 rpm. Really is a drag and I've talked to a lot of B6 S4 Tipdriversand they all pretty much report the same transmission behavior.

I'm still trying to get feedback from 1.8T Tip drivers. Anyanecdotalexperiencesareappreciated. What are they like chipped? The consensous seems to be that"D" mode is a disaster in the TipB6 carswhich have been chipped. As I stated, I drive in Tip mode so it isn'tthat much of a worry. Man... I wish this car had thepaddles. Makes melove my S4 all the more.

you can actually convert it to paddle shifters, but it costs a pretty penny

Well, tips are fun at times, but mostlyI leave it in S mode. Oh, and by the way, I hate you for having an A4, S4, and TT........................

Yea the Tip isn't that bad. I thought the reluctant shifting at redline was only on the 2.8, didn't know it happens across the board.

I'm curious to know how driving in S mode effects your gas mileage. I'm guessing it's not as good as D mode, due to higher rpm's between shifts, but what do I know? I always assumed it was worse for fuel economy, so I always drive in D mode.

The S mode just winds the engine out a little too much for my driving style. At least for day-to-day driving. If I want to wind it I prefer using Tip.

Yea tip does drive nice,at least thats what my friends mom says about hers.j/k I've driven the 04 1.8T in tip and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Raced my friends moms car with my friend drivin with my 118hp 4cyl ford probe and beat it. It was a dog off the line. Just doesn't feel right for the 1.8s power band. But thats just me,then again i've never owned an automatic and am use to the instant response of stick. Congrats on the car and stay safe in it.

See... the thing is, I didn't buy this car to go charging off the line. This is a daily driver and since I filled it with premium (the dealer filled it with 87) I have noticed that it is much more solid off the line. The low octane fuel must retard the timing like crazy.

I'm going to chip it as soon as I have a little extra cash. In the meantime, it is very driveable.

Yeah driving in S mode is horrible on gas. If I use S mode most of the time, my mileage per tank will go down by about half. But on the upside, the S mode is like using the tip, but the car shifts for youand it's great for me because im too lazy to use the tip shifter....
