Tire question
Currently my B7 quattro has 17 inch summer performance tires. Keeping in mind I live in Southern California, I was wondering when winter came around if I should switch to all-season tires/winter (winter probably overkill) or if the summer tires would still be fine? I know it typically doesn't rain all that much in SoCal but its been known to happen... especially this past year. And if the recommendation is to perhaps get a set for the winter time, what type do you recommend? I've read that Pirellis aren't that great, mainly because the tread wear out to fast.
Also sometimes I drive up to the mountains to hit the slopes but I could probably take the awd SUV for that. ;) |
RE: Tire question
If the worst you'll see is rain, stick with summer tires... summer tires will outperform all seasons in rain. That is basically what a summer tire is... a rain tire. Switching to all seasons would be worse in rain -- however, if you do plan on getting into snow... summer tires are 100% useless in the white stuff.

RE: Tire question
i use summer tires all year round here in san diego. they perform well in the rain. as long as it doesn't snow here in So Cal, i think it should be fine.

RE: Tire question
Agreed.
Cant be using summer rubber in snow. |
RE: Tire question
Ok cool thanks guys. I won't worry about all-season or winter tires then, less I encounter snow but at that point winter tires here I come. :D

RE: Tire question
Unless you are driving up to Big Bear or Hemet in the winter, you will be fine with summer tires.
