Default Transmissions Questions

Just purchased a 1998 A4 1.8t Quattro with 102K miles (for my newly licensed son). Spent some time searching archives on this site and learned a few things about some of the issues I am seeing with the heat and heated seats.

Question I have is on the transmission - when it upshifts I see a brief 3-400rpm increase as it shifts to the next higher gear. Is this normal? Would it be part of a chip mod, or am I seeing transmission slipping? I have read all of the archive comments about transmission fluid servicing - don't know if that's been done in the lifetime of the car.

Where's a good place to purchase parts online - OEM and aftermarket? Need drivers side lower door trim, and rear passenger also.

Default RE: Transmissions Questions

check out the 'audi links' sticky at the top of this forum...the transmission problem you're describing sounds more like a throttle problem to me, i'd start at your throttle body.

Default RE: Transmissions Questions

The more I drive it - the more it feels like slipping between gears. I am taking the car to the dealer for service next week. Looking at timing belt, water pump, and whatever pulleys and stuff that may need service while it's there. I am also going to have the tranny fluid level checked, and the radiator flushed/refilled - along with a heater check.

Why would you think throttle body?

Thanks!
