Trouble Codes Problems

Hello! I have just bought my Audi A4 2.8 manual 99 and I have the check engine light on. The codes are P1136,1138,0045. The mechanics don't have many ideas and want to start changing parts just to see what's going to happen. If someone can give me some information about the possible problem. I don't want to change parts just to spend some money. Thanks!

RE: Trouble Codes Problems

First find a mechanicwho specializes in VW or Audi.

P1136
17544
Bank 1, mixture adaptation (add.)

System too lean 1)
- Road test vehicle (fuel in oil).
- Check fuel system pressure

P1138
17546
Bank 2, mixture adaptation (add.)

System too lean 1)
- Check oxygen sensor behind catalytic converter

I can't find a P0045 code listed. Are you sure that is right.

P1136/8 I would be checking for an air leak,

P0046 is turbo/supercharger related I cant understand you getting that one (unless you have fitted one)?? if not then its a bogus code

P0445 = EVAP canister purge valve - short circuit check the wiring

RE: Trouble Codes Problems

The EVAP cannister purge valve is a black box that sits on top of the airbox. It has wires and hoses going to it. With the engine running put your ear right on it and you should hear it clicking. Also check the hoses and the grey and white check valves coming out of it for cracks and loose connections or sucking sounds that would indicate a vacuum leak. That would give you all three codes.
