Water pump removal
I tried using the search feature, but the thing keeps telling me there's nothing that fits my search, even when I search for simple things like "audi" or "turbo". Anyway, my cousin is in the process of trying to get my old water pump off and a new one ordered in, and installed. From all we can find, the only way to do this is by removing the bumper, along with much of the rest of the front end. Is there any way possible to get this changed out without doing all that? He thinks by looking at it, that he might be able to get it out, but we just need to know if there are any tips or tricks to getting it done. Thanks for any help.
the only way i know is by taking off the bumper, radiator, ac, lock carrier, and oil pump sprocket which is part of the timing belt, but maybe i am wrong. i just replaced mine 3 days ago but i did it with the timing belt
When I was looking at it yesterday, I didn't see that it was connected to the timing belt in any way. But if that's the case, I'm past due for a timing belt change anyway, might as well throw that on while it's apart.
Yeah, I've read over the steps to the timing belt replacement countless times, each time dreading actually doing it more and more. Oh well, I guess the car's down right now till I get that pump replaced so I might as well get it taken care of.
Removing the bumber isnt all that difficult. It definatly makes the entire job much easier. In anycase you will have to at least loosen the timing belt, even if you have the style that isnt driven by the water pump. The intermediate shaft pully on the timing belt is in the way and must be removed to remove some of the bolts in the waterpump. In any case now is a good time to replace the timing belt since your already 80% of the way there.
