Default Weird Stalling

Yesterday when I turned on my car the RPMs started idling around 1300. That is unusually high for my car. I let the car warm up for about 5mins before driving. I drove for about 15mins, then I stopped at a redlight. The RPMs suddenly dropped to 0 and my car shutoff. I wasn't in gear at all. I turned on my car again, and a good 5 seconds later my car did the same thing. I turned on my car once again and pulled into a parking lot and had my car towed. I haven't received a call to see what the problem is yet. I am just wondering if any of you guys have an idea of what the problem is. My car is a '97 A4 2.8. Theres about 97K miles on it, and I just had the clutch replaced 2 months ago. I was going to get my timing belt replaced within the next 2 weeks also. Thanks in advance.

Is that a big time repair? Like time/money? And I didn't take it to an Audi dealership to fix. For a timing belt they said around $1700 total. Thats a bit insane. And thanks Onepoint.

timing belt can be done by a local shop/not the dealer for around $600 usually. But id do it myself (and have) and its not hard, just takes time, tools, and a DIY article which can be found lots of places. It would cost you about $350 or so to do it yourself. BIG SAVINGS! (that includes, T belt, all other belts, water pump, t-stat, and the updated tensioner + roller. I got mine from www.ecstuning.com and you might be able to peice the kit together for less from www.purems.com

Yea I've looked at the DIY and was going to try it because my one friend goes to school for Audi after graduating from a Tech school. But, the major factor that made me not want to do it is time. I drive everyday for class and work. I mean I could try on Spring Break, but it would take a good bit of time. Thanks again guys. I just hope this doesn't burn a hole in my wallet. And the place I took my car to said they woulddo the belt for $660, which is a whole ton better then $1700.

Right, but for $660 are they doing the waterpump, tstat, tensioner, roller, and other belts?? It doesnt take THAT much time to DIY.. A good chunk of a day,8 or so hours for a first timer, but damn, is your schedule really that tight that you wouldnt have time on a weekend or something?

I might give it a try. My schedule is pretty rediculous. 2 jobs and 5 classes. Hmm...I will ask my friends if they'll help me out on it since you said it would only take a full day. Thanks again
