i'm a newbie...bought my first audi and first turbo...2006 A4 2.0T...sweet ride : )

it's got about 470 miles on it, and i'm not sure if it's just a coincidence, but i just noticed that when i put my foot on the gas and hit 20-25 mph i start to hear a faint whirring noise (almost like wind coming through the vent)...it's kind of high pitched, but not really...

i was told that this is the turbo kicking in...

my question...what kind of sound does the turbo make once "on" ... does it kick in at about 20-25 mph ... as soon as i take my foot off the gas, the sound stops...

as long as i keep my foot on the gas, the sound continues (as long as i'm going over 20-25 mph)...at high speeds (45+ mph), i don't really hear it, but maybe because the engine is revving harder...

any comments would be appreciated...thanks!

 

whenever the turbo spools up it makes that sound.

 

Go to off topic / bored / play hate penguins. When you hit it it makes the sound of a turbo

glen...thanks for the link...i hit the penguin, but that's not the sound i'm talking about...the penguin sound when i hit the penguin sounds like a video game/synthesizer sound...

i'm talking about a consistent faint whistling/humming/whirring noise as long as i press on the gas and go over 20-25 mph...

 

yes thats the wistling noise that a turbo makes when its kicking in!!!! have you ever drivven in a mack truck or a big rig of any sort.. most of the new ones are turbocharged and believe me that damn thing wistles lol

yea to a certain point u wont be able to hear it at much higher speeds it doesnt do much once it kicks in at about 20 you will hear it till about 40-50 or so

damn i wish i could buy a new 2.0T OMGGG

 

a turbo kinda makes a ....**scchhhhhrrrr* sound. if you floor it does it kinda go *waaacccrrrrrr*..

the turbo gains speed as the engine gains rpms, the turbo is always
spinning but you cant hear it untill the rpms are high because its only
spinning slow at idle . this sound is normal..
