What is wrong?
I have an 2000 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo, right? Well, I lost insurance for it over winter time, and it was left sitting out in the snow for a few months. Maybe 3. The battery has completely died. I tried to jump start it. But the person I was jump starting it with put the cables on backward on their vehicle(a 2005 Chevy Cobalt). Smoke started to come up from the battery. Before I had even cranked the key to jump my Audi, it had beeped three times. It still only beeps when trying to jump start it, but it will not crank anymore.
Do I need to simply let it sit and take some energy from the other vehicle before I try and crank it? Do I need a new battery? Did something fry? I pray nothing too bad happened and it is only the first option.. Anyway. Thank you for any help and I apologize if there is already a thread on this or if it is in the wrong section. |
I was a part of a situation like this once. It actually ruined the cables. We got a different set of cables and the car started right up. Get a car to jump you that has a battery with some cranking amps. Like an SUV or Pickup.
good luck. |
Sell that piece of junk. Audis are junk. Get a more reliable car like a Toyota.

You either:
A) Can't afford one B) Didn't take care of yours so you hate them C) Have no life so you find forums to bash My Audi A4 1.8T is from 2000 and has less than 75,000 miles on it. I would LOVE to buy a nice Geo Metro and put my Audi in a garage for the next decade to keep the miles low and soup it up throughout the years. 25 year old Audi with that many miles? Oooh wee!! |
This is my second vehicle I have owned. I sold my 1993 light quasar blue colored box style Chevy on 35" in 2009 and bought this bad boy. If I could take a picture, I would. I need to get a job so I can fix it up though. In time, AudiForums... In time.

Sounds good man, and don't mind the troll - he's been excised from our little community.

So, I purchased a new battery and installed it. All the lights come on but it doesn't crank over. I'm thinkin' I fried my starter. That must be what the smoke was from. Also, I noticed my radio doesn't turn on... Still the three beeps upon start up though.
