Wheel bearing & breaking of ABS sensor

I took my 2001 A4 Quattro to Sears Auto to have the left rear bearing repaired/replaced as soon as I noticed the noise. While doing the repair the technician relayed the ABS broke and there was no way to save the sensor when doing the repair. Because they did not have a sensor on hand I am doing some investigating and how this could happen and who should be responsible for the $250 part cost.

I did talk to an Audi Repair manager and was told that the ABS sensor should not have broke during the repair and if it did it was probably do to technician error.

Any insight to how this repair is done and whether the technician/repair shop is at fault would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Definitely sounds like "technician error". I would hold them responsible for the cost of the repair of the ABS sensor. If they give you any flak you should persue the claim through Sears customer service. I would expect that they would do whatever they could to resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

I would aslo consider, in the future, not taking your Audi to Sears Auto.

Thanks for your post. Any technical insight on how this could have happened?

Agree on sticking w/Audi service and won't make that mistake again. Only went to Sears to have it repaired right away since Audi was booked on Saturday when I discovered the issue and closed Sunday. Lesson learned!
