Wheel weight and preformance
How detrimental would buying aftermarket wheels, which are 2 pounds heavier than my stockers, be on my preformance and handling? Reason i ask is im torn between two wheels. The first set weigh 20.6 lbs each 19x8 and are about 350 each (OZ ultraleggeras). The second set are 19x8.5
and are only 300 each
but they weigh about 29ish lbs each i think (ADR M-Sport hyper-black). the wheels being replaced are stock B6 S4 AVUS's.

there is a difference between spurng mass (anything above the suspension) and then unsprung mass (below the suspension). Increasing wheel weight will make your braking performance and acceleration decrese. increase of wheel weight increases the inertia of the wheels. increase of inertia means it's going ot take longer to start and stop them. thus, for equal perofrmance, you'd need bigger brakes and more motor power.
Most people go to lighter wheels as an easy increase in performance, as it reduces the inertial mass.

how much do the stock wheels weigh? I didn't really read the initial post, just the part about one wheel weighing 10lbs more than the other.
Usually the weight that people notice is when they go from stock truck wheels to 24" chromed out wheels. Chrome is your real enemy in terms of weight.

In reply to lbraasch, my stock wheels are about 28lbs, basically im trying to decide if reducing weight by 8lbs at each wheel is gonna make a noticeable diference, to the point that it justifies spending the extra $ for lightweight wheels

honestly i like the oz's better. and you wont feel any difference if you go to the adr's but if you go with oz, you will feel a lil quicker off the line and braking! like everybody else says. i would say go lighter... your breaks will last a week longer too! lol
