Oil warning light

Oil warning light
Hi there
Hope someone can help.
My Audi A4 (1996 model 1.8l) is flashing 'oil' in the odometer (mileage clock trip switch) when the ignition is turned on. The oil level is full, but the oil light still appears.
I presume this is a faulty oil pressure/level sensor.
Any ideas of how to check whether the sensor is faulty, or where in the engine it is?
I've checked my Haynes manaul, and can't find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Oil warning light
Be careful! It might not be a faulty sensor, though hopefully it is. Do you use full synthetic oil, and change it every 3-5k miles, AND use the correct, larger filter for the 1.8t? If not, you may have sludge, and you will not want to drive the car if that's the case as you have potential to do some real damage.
