AMU block. Which eng codes can substitute.

I am thinking about buying an A4 with AMU engine problem. The owner said that the #4 piston rod broke. So to prepare for the worst, if I am gonna have to replace the engine block, which engine codes would fit?

Can I simply use any 1.8 block? Don't they only have different heads?
