Wierd Startup Problem
 

I have a 02 A4 1.8T 67k miles on it, and whenever I start it up in warmer weather, it goes up close to 1x1000 RPM/min then stalls or drops w/e. In cold weather it doesnt do this though. I find it wierd and wanted to know whats wrong. Its not that big of a hassle to me because I just tap the accelerator a little and its fine, but im still concerned. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

2 areas to look at are throttle body idle control valve/throttle flap sticking next is the MAF sensor but my bet is on the throttle body needs a good clean out,

the reason it doesn't give a problem when cold is because its in choke enriched mode so fuel is enriched and revs are higher normally ( like the old days when you pulled the choke wire out to keep it running ) now its all electronic;)

Hey, thanks for the quick response. Im not very familiar with cars, so is this something I could do myself? If so are there any guides or instructions on where I could find the throttle body and how to clean it?

I have a 99 A4. Mine is doing the same thing. Don't know what the problem is. Anyone??

might be coolant tempmaking the motor think its a different temp than it really is, or it may be a vac leak

i have a 1998 audi a4 1.8t. Very same problem will not start sometimes and starts in a few cranks, also the mli/mla light is on with code "PO116" which thnaks to someone has led me to an interpretation : engine coolant sensor or faulty wires ....only two answers. Also rpm's at times will jump up if i take the car off gear and stay there unless i touch the gas pedal to kind of cancel it(happens rarely)
Does anyone know if it is the sensor in my case, because under the code (when uploaded by notebook, it said also air/fuel module (underneta the code Po 116)...Could it all be the throttle problem? Thanks many.!!!

Addition to the question above:
Also just had a k and n filterinstalled, and it appears the problem appeared right after that, could it be a coinsidence, or this might be a problem too (too much air intake...)

in cold weather it should rev higher, hot weather it should be normal. its definately just a sensor/throttle positioning. get your codes scanned at auto zone for free and vwaaaaaaa laaaaaa, problem solved.
