Would worn tires trigger ABS?
All, I just picked up a 1998 A4 Quattro and the ABS kicks in when I'm just about to come to a complete stop. Would worn tires cause this? The front tires are significantly more worn than the rears. If it's something else, what should I be checking? I'm planning on cleaning all the sensors tomorrow night and the pads and rotors look good. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance, James

I would say it more likely the sensors than the tires, especially if its doing it even when coming to nice gentle stop and you know the tires aren't slipping. Cleaning the wheel sensors should be the first thing to try. Easy and free. I had this problem before too after getting PB Blaster all over and once I cleaned the sensors it went away completely.
I have the same problem as well. I think one of the rear sensor has issues sometimes, I cleaned front sensors and did not fix the problem. tire is not an issue unless you are driven on ice.
does it have traction control?? if yes worn tyres will cause this ( abs I doubt it because it only works on speeds above 20mph ) so its go to be some other problem BUT good tyres are a start
