YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
Ok, so I clicked on the link above for the www.getcoolparts.com site and was looking around and found this:
http://www.getcoolparts.com/epcvsoap...d=getcoolparts It says you can buy JUST the bushings and not the whole control arm!!! I thought you couldn't do that!?!?!? What do you think? Josh |
RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
Sounds like a PITA to me...
|
RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
yes - the reason Audi doesn't replace bushing is because it IS a pita... Easier to change the whole control arm.
|
RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
But what about the price difference. Is it really easier to change the whole control arm then only spend 6-10 bucks for a bushing?

RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
the correct way to put it is - the cost (labor) to push out the bushing and put the new on in is greater than just replacing the whole thing.
Edit: cheaper if you can do it yourself - but shop labor would eat the savings quick |
RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
GEEZ!!! What do you have to do to get them out? And then back in again?

RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
I have changed mine before.
The dealer actually sell them too. cost me about 60 USD for lower front inner bushing. it is an aluminum cylinder with aluminum core in the middle, suspended with rubber or something. For my old one. the rubber is broken so it is very easy to take the core out. I had to saw the cylinder on one side then take it out. It is much easier that way and it doesnt take long to saw off the aluminum. putting the new one in is very simple. worst case.. use a vice. |
RE: YOU CAN BUY JUST THE BUSHINGS!!!
Yeah thats what I was thinking. My car makes a small clunk noise every time i go over a bump so I am thinking it's the bushings And I didn't want to spend a butt load of money on new control arms when it's just the bushings that need to be fixed/replaced.

Really? On my older audi (96 A4 2.8) I had a clunk and was told that so i replaced them and it didn't fix it.
