Default 00 A6 tranny slipping

Hi,
Car has 146k on it with a tiptronic auto tranny.
ive noticed since we bought it at 120k that from a stop or rolling stop the tranny would hesitate, but now i noticed twice the tach would jump up to 5k and then when i let off it would engage again.
this has always happend while in drive, not shifting it manualy.
ive not noticed any issues once the car was under way and above 20mph.

oh course i couldnt find a tranny fluid dipstick and the owners manual doesnt even contain the word "transmission"

im a shade tree kinda guy with tools and ramps, and mabey drain and change the filter but beyond that ill have to pay to have work done.
any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Well it's a good thing you didn't put 26K on it while it was slipping... OH wait you did.

You have to fill it from underneath the car it is a complete PITA you should bring it into a european auto shop and have it serviced ASAP before you loose a clutch pack. its 3-5K to rebuild.

Basically you need to have a vagcom, start the car cold fill it while it's running on top of you and get it all topped of before it hits 30C (86F). It takes special fluid you can get it from Audi or buy Pentosin ATF on line.

That's why you should take it in. You will need to leave it overnight because it is impossible to fill it warm it needs to be cold in order to start the process (trans temp at least below 24C).

Tell them your slipping and what gear it is. Have it checked for leaks. If the fluid is not burnt change the filter and gasket and drain/fill plug seals and refill it to the correct level. Hopefully no major damage was done.

Ask around and find someone good to do the service for you.

i checked around and found 2 shops that specialize in VW work, and Audi included.
one a mom and pop type place where you deal with the owners and they are the mechanic.so ill look further into them.
