05 A6 needs new steering column????

Dealer told me today that my no start problem was caused by some module, and only way to correct issue is to replace the steering column. I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues

That's crap. Get another opinion.

I think dealers are making up their lower sales by screwing AoA on bogus warranty. They should be able to replace the module or the ignition, but not the whole steering column assembly.

Get them to put exactly what they are proposing and exactly what is wrong with the car along with how they reached this conclusion--- on paper..get a copy. Now, exactly why did you take you car in?

went to go to the store on sat. afternoon, put the key in, mmi would come on but that is it, steering would never unlock, gear selector would not lock, dash would not light up, turn the key and nothing. Car was towed to dealer earlier in the week, now i wait for parts.

Did you leave the car in "Park" at the end of your previous day/trip? The gear selector should have been locked in "Park".
What do you mean by "gear selector would not lock"?

Anyway, you may need a new ignition switch/tumbler. They shouldn't replace the whole steering column for that.

I'm with chefro on this...I can't think of a situation using those symptoms that would require removing the whole steering column...there's guys in this forum who pretty much know that car.
