There are cleaning instructions on how to clean the flaps without disassembling the entire intake manifold. However I took it completely apart a year ago when I worked on my engine for different reasons.
So yes, I have cleaned it out .. it was so shiny that the paint started flaking off (outside) from the cleaning solution I used to clean the inside :P

anyone have pics of cleaning inside of the manifold ? how the hell do you get the change rod out without breaking it?
i can just snap the gruvenparts billet links on in 5 seconds but i figure i might as well drink another beer and clean the whole manifold while im at it.
and how the hell can Audi win every ralley race from 1985-2005, yet they produce garbage plastic engines like this? its like NASA also releasing a Yugo in their spare time ...

This is what I initially used to clean the intake flaps:
40V Intake manifold fix for stuck or sluggish flap pivots (no broken parts)... - AudiWorld Forums
However I decided half way in to go all out and actually remove the intake manifold, open it and really clean everything. Here are some instructions that help:
