Lightbulb 1997 A6 193,XXX miles?

I found a 1997 Audi A6 with quattro in a good condition for $3,000. The only issues i see is that it has over 193,000 miles on it and I dont really have the money to be buying all sorts of replacement parts. I will include a link on the bottom of this post to the dealer listing but I ask this forum is this a good deal for this car? And what should I have done before I purchase it? Should I trust the "used car inspection" by the dealer or go to a different mechanic?

"I dont really have the money to be buying all sorts of replacement parts". I think you answered your own question. Anything with that kind of age or mileage will need some parts.

Any $3000 or high mileage car is going to need repairs. Some of which may be expensive. Whether you buy a Honda or an Audi of this vintage it will need work, but it will be a little cheaper to find parts and someone to work on the Honda. On the other hand, I now have 176k on my A6 and there have not been significant problems. Of course, I've treated it gently the last 140k miles, including all scheduled maintenance plus additional preventive maintenance (changing tranny and diffy fluids, brake fluids, etc.).

I agree with the previous two -- and would add that you can't afford an Audi.

If $3,000 is all you have to spend you should not be looking at an Audi.
$2,000 -3,000 entry price for a used Audi is OK if you plan on spending another $2,000 for stuff that WILL happen.

Buddy they arn't cheep to fix and you WILL be spending a lot.

Sounds like you should look for a Toyota or a Lexus instead...

for $3000, you are buying as is. and do not trust the dealership, they might not be lying, but they probally dont know exactly whats wrong with everything part on every car. there job is to sell cars for a profit and for $3000 that car is to expensive to fix brand new. Good luck!

I agree, don't just assume that you will get lucky and drive the car off the lot with nothing needed. These cars are "Sensitive" to say the least. I bought my 97' A6 this past May and have over $5000 into it already and I gladly chose to do that as I love these cars. It could of ran okay the way I bought it, but it needed a new front end for a tighter suspension, new dash lights, sunroof motor, brakes, struts, etc.. The car went from okay and weathered to actually feeling almost new, it can be achieved but costs money.
I also bought a 96' A6 for my little brother just last month from the original owner who was a lunatic with the car. He gave me receipts totaling $9000 for all the work he had done to the car and yet when I bought it, it still needed $710 worth of front end work, differential and tranny seals. Expect to put in a $1000 so you don't resent the car for having to put money into it.
I also think $3000 is too much for that car, sorry. I paid $2300 for my 97' with 133,000 miles and I bought my brothers 96' with 242,000 for $1500. not sure if you bought this car or passed it up as this post is over a month old, but if you are still considering it, negotiate him down otherwise check Craigslist, there are a ton of Audi's for sale there.
