1999 A6 w/ a few probs... what to do?
Hey y'all,
I'm bummed I found about this site so late in my Audi ownership... I have a 1999 2.7T A6 and I'm moving to NYC next month so I need to sell. Problem is it's sounding like at least my front control arm bushing(s?) are shot... I took 'er to a garage that originally quoted me $1200 and then they realized they would need more parts than they originally thought (12) and they upped the estimate to $2600, parts + labor. Oy.
Obviously it's going to be tough to sell a car that sounds like a squeaky bed. The garage I went to gave a shot of silicone (I think) into the bushings but they said they were completely shot- the squeaking sound came back within a day after they sprayed it. Now I'm wary of even driving the car.
The car has 121,000 miles. I've seen this issue mentioned elsewhere on audiforums.com. Unfortunately my warranty expired a year ago... but do you think there's any way I could get Audi to take care of this repair for me? Could this be related to recall 00V414000 (see the first recall listed on this site: http://www.internetautoguide.com/aut.../audi/a6/base/ )? Otherwise... does anyone know of a reputable garage in or around the Malden, MA area that specializes in Audis? $2600 seems a bit steep, and it's more than I'm willing to spend on a car I'm going to turn around and sell anyway. Or... anyone who's handy with Audi repairs looking for a 1999 A6?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have the same problem in my 1999 Audi A6. I would print the recall note and bring it to the dealer 1st. I think only the upper control arm is covered. However, by far the best and least expensive fixer, in my view is Brian's Garage in Needham MA http://www.briansgarage.com. He's a race car driver and the work is good. 781-444-3300. The suspension and the entire front end just goes after 75k so consider yourself lucky. 2k is way high.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your responses. I just left a message with Brian's Garage, hopefully they'll at least be able to tell me if it's worth the headache of going to the dealer and dealing with their BS.
Best wishes,
Bennett
