2.7T hp
Can anyone tell me why my U.K spec 2000 A6 Avant Tip 2.7T has 230hp and does 0-60 in 8.4 seconds. I've got these figures from the owners handbook. Needless to say I'm a bit peeved after reading all the 6 second times on here. Everytime I look up figures for my car it comes up with 250hp and 0-60 in 6.7. My car feels more 8 seconds than 6. Plus I find it hard to believe that 20 horsepower would knock 2 second off my 0-60.
Any ideas anyone.

I don't think US/UK spec matter that much.
Two things: extra horses AND when they are available. I guarantee you that if you look at the hp/torque curves on 2000 and 2001 2.7T engines, you will see that the 2001 gets into the peek powerband faster, which in turn allows it to start accelerating faster sooner than the 2000.
Another observation: don't get upset about your car feeling slow - its an autobahn eater, not a stoplight racer. Get up to about 50mph on a highway and floor the throttle (just watch out for those robo-bobby cameras you guys have out there :-) - I think you will find some new respect for your ride. Beyond this, try the obvious, air filter, ignition timing tune up, timing belts - expensive, but well worth it if you're planning on keeping the car for a long time.
Keep in mind, the engine has a computer setting that remembers the way you drive your car - get it breathing heavy, keep the revs up and you will be rewarded. FACT!
Finally, I have an '01 2.7T with tiptronic and it feels every bit as fast as the manual claims (sometimes even faster!). I put ONLY 93 octane in mine and feed it only synthetic oil, both of which probably help somewhat.
peace and luck

RE: 2.7T hp
The kerb weight of my 2000 A6 2.7T is 1805kg and my torque is written as 310 nm/1700-4600. though not sure what that means. The perfomance has improved now for three reasons I think. 1. K&N panel filter the standard one was filthy. 2. some had fitted exhuast tips but hadnt cut back the turn down exhuast so the tips were restricting the flow. (muppets) and 3. As Twinblowersonice pointed out I have given it some stick so I geuss its now adjusted itself to suit.. (thanks for that sonic). Oh and I also ran some Redex through it which has smoothed out the occasional rough idle.
Thanks all

huh, you live and you learn - I'm on the way to get some redex
oh, also, even if you have the tip tranny, you can do this - keep the revs around 2500-3000 for about 30 seconds without switching up and than floor it... don't blow the engine ))
