Default Are 2000 2.7Ts bad?

I have been looking for a 6-speed 2.7T A6 for a while now and all of a sudden on has come up near me for a ridiculous price. It is a 2000 though. I have heard that the 2000 model had smaller turbo oil lines or something like that and it makes it less reliable. Is this true? Also what other kind of options are lacking in 00' versus 01'? Any help would be appreciated! And quickly! Btw, it is a 00' Silver on black with 93k. I will have to call on it tomorrow as it was just listed tonight.

You are correct about the oil lines to the turbos. I believe the 01's have larger lines. The 00 also has "F" hose that has been eliminated on the 01's. The "F" hose has been prone to failure if your ECU has been chipped. The 4.2's are more reliable overall. I have a 00 2.7T thats chipped, new DV's, Milltek Exhaust, SAMCO Hoses to name a coupleand I am very happy with the car. The crucial thing is taking care of your turbos....which means drive easy the first few minutes until the engine oil warms up (175 degrees) and drive easy the last few minutes before you shut down.

Hope this helps!

Yes, I heard all of the same info as above. Thats why I waited til I found the 2001 I just got. It was 110% worth the wait. Has every package and option I wanted. I almost bought a 2000, silver on black, non sport pack. I am very glad I didn't and waited for this one. Had the sport pack (HUGE difference- wheels, brakes, sway bars, slightly lower, and sport seats) and it was black/black like I wanted as well. Took me months to find, but I would have regretted jumping into the silver one when this one became available. Just be patient, you will find the right one. I was picky with my choice so it took a long time. But they are out there..

And 93k, make sure timing belt was done, or you will need to asap.

Actually, the larger oil lines were added in mid-year 2001, so not ALL 2001 2.7T's have the upgraded lines. There is no specific month that this changeover happened...some guys have a build date earlier than others with the upgraded lines, and some with later build dates with the older lines.

Not sure about the F-hose, if that totally went away with all 2001 2.7Ts, or only those with the upgraded lines.
