2000 a6 2.7t camshaft sprocket removal
 

What is the best way to remove the camshaft sprocket? I have the cam lock tool and have removed the bolt. But the sprocket will not budge. Any tips or ideas will be much appreciated.

A gear puller first and if that does not work add a little heat to the sprocket while the gear puller is putting tension on the pulley.

I assume you have a good reason for removing the pulley. If you are just doing the timing belt there is no reason to break it free unless you know it is in the wrong orientation.

Removing the sprocket to remove the cam shafts to do the seals. What type of gear puller do you recommend?

I also had this suggestion. Screw the bolt back in until it bottoms, then unscrew it two full turns. Take a hammer and whack it sharply, as if you are driving it into the cam like it was a nail. Sprocket will pop off.

Does this seem reasonable? Will it hurt the threads of the bolt?

I have Craftsman puller which has worked well for may applications. It is adjustable and has inward and outward hooks. I would try to use the inward ones and grab the hub rather than the sprocket to avoid bending the pulley.

I am not sure I like your idea with the hammer although I do know an Audi guy who can do amazing things with judicious use of a large hammer...
