Default 2000 A6 4.2 SAI problem Please Help

Hello All

Just got through replacing the abs module and MAF. A few days latersome moreseemingly common CEL codes have popped up.

17831 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 1: Insufficient Flow
P1423 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17819 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 2: Insufficient Flow
P1411 - 35-00 - -

Just for Info: I have aVAG-Com and if I clear the codes it takes about a week or so for the CEL to reappear.

I've been reading the posts out there and realize if could be the SAI pump, vacuum hose, combi valve, or solenoid valve, or a fuse.

Trouble is I'm really havingdifficulty infuiguring out how to check to see if the pump is running, the vac hoses are not leaking, if the valves are working and what fuse numbers to check.

Does anyone know of any pictures highlighting these components in the engine compartment, how to get to them, and if thereare any walkthroughs for testing?

Thanks in advance for anyone's help with this!!

Are you sure the vac lines aren't leaking? The vac lines only have vaccum from the combi valves when the SAI pump is running, it doesn't matter the pump is running or not.
You can activate the SAI pumpVAG COM manually through basic settings block 70 once every key cylcle for about 10 seconds to check if the pump works or not.

I'll try and use block 70 to check to see if the pump will run.
Should I be able to hear it by just listening to the passenger front side of the engine compartment?

I'll check the hoses. Any tips on checking them?
I'm guessing that I have to remove the passenger headlight and airbox to run my hand along the hose running from the pump.
Should using a hand to feel any air escaping be sufficient or is there a better way?

Thanks again.
