Default 2000 A6 Vag-Com

Looking for a little advice, and direction.
I own a 2000 A6 4.2, and wanted to purchase the Vag-Com diagnostic tool. The question I have is that what is exactly involved with the purchase of one of these units.

The issue is that the pricing differance. I found a Vag-Com cable on E-bay for roughly $15 or you can spend couple of hundred dollars on the Vag-Com website.

So my main question is, which way should i go? What comes with buying one of these tools?

I appreciate any help,

Thanks,

JR

There are a ton of posts relating to VagCom in this section. Do a search!

The $15 cable and free software from Ros tech is limited but many folks find that it gives them everything they need. You'll need a lap-top or desktop near your vehicle to run the software.

Most of the time people use it to read and clear CEL codes, but it can be used to monitor other vehicle functions and change things - some of which can be a bit dangerous.

Well I received my $25 cable from Ebay last week. Installed the software on my laptop and hooked up to the A6. WOW, this is a hell of a tool. Why haven't I purchased one of these earlier???

I'll make sure to stay out of the dangerous menus.

Thanks for all the advice,

JR
