Default 2001 2.8 quattro won't start and more!

I was at the gas station and my car would crank and wouldn't start. A minute later, I tried again and it worked. The car drove home fine, but when I got home it wouldn't start again. I tried jumping the car, but nothing. The car has a new starter and ignition switch. I took the cover off the fuel pump and don't hear it activating, although with a test light I found I have power at the pump. While troubleshooting I realized none of my windows, the moon roof, and the ac/heater were working. I checked all the fuses in the panel on the side of the dash. The gauges do not move when I put the key in, although the clock and odometer light up. I'm wondering if this is electrical or if I just have a bad fuel pump.

Please Help! I am no expert, but want to learn as much as I can.

PS.windows do go up and down when holding the key turned in the driver's door.

It sure sounds like the ignition switch. Did you get the replacement switch at the dealer or was it aftermarket? If aftermarket it could have failed. Some of those Chinese made switches are pretty cheap. I put one in my daughter's car and it lasted 6 months.

If you did not have all of the electrical gremlins I would have thought either fuel pump or cam position sensor but I am leaning heavily towards the ignition switch.

I changed the ignition switch with an aftermarket (non-Audi) switch a few months ago when I had a faulty starter. So I took your advice and threw the old switch I had back in and voila! Problem solved!

Much thanks

Glad I could help. If the old switch worked, why did you replace it? If it has some other issues get to the dealer or genuineaudiparts.com and order an OEM switch. They are not that expensive.

After changing the switch, my last starting issue was found to be a bad ground to the starter. I definitely will be using genuine Audi parts whenever possible in the future. Thanks again
