Default 2001 4.2 Catalytic Converter

Hi, I am new to this forum and would like some input on a problem I am having with my 2001 Audi A6 4.2 (77k). I have been having a rattling noise under the car for and got it checked - it appears that there is a broken matrix in each of the catalytic converters. I am not an expert on cars but I assume that catalytic converters should last more than 6 years.......
Anyway, I guess what I would like to know is this something that Audi (corporate) would assist with or would it be a standard 'the car is out of warranty' response? Any suggestions for where I could get a new catalytic converter if I will end up paying myself?
Any input would be appreciated. Cheers.

Call your dealer. I believe that AUDI has a warranty out there for thes cats failing. I think the cap is 100k but don't quote me.

I think in the states the cats are covered to 80k or more because of emissions laws so going by the age and miles I think your covered,

are you sure the heat shields aren't loose?? and use a larger type set my eyes are not that good these days

Thanks for your input. I did follow-up with Audi USA and the catalytic converter is covered by a 8year/80,000mile emission warranty. I took it to the local (st)ealership and they tried to charge me an hour of labour to look under the car (I brought the previous records from my local european car spec shop). The dealership initially told me that it is not covered and gave me dirty looks when I told them that I had already called AudiUSA and had a case number assigned to me. Long story short - it was covered (a good thing too as each was quoted at 1k) and I was not billed for the 'diagnostics'. Am getting it replaced next week.
Thanks for your help.

I went to the Zimbrick Audi dealership at Madison, Wisconsin
I have had a bad experience with their BMW dealership too when they replaced the wrong warranty covered part and tried to tell me that BMW usually doesn't cover the actual part......(here also, had spoken to BMW before going there).....finally managed to get both parts covered.
Thanks again.
